mission & contact information

DocumentaryWorks is a community-based organization devoted to the study of all forms of documentary, with a special passion for audio and radio stories. Many of our contributors are amateur documentarians producing works situated in their local communities. Others are students and scholars interested in alternative modes of academic presentation, especially modes that can engage a wider public audience. People of all walks of life contribute "audio postcards" of place-specific soundscapes to our sonic snapshots series, exhibiting the wonder and texture of the sounds of everyday life from around the globe.

The founder and director of DocumentaryWorks is Mark Neumann. Mark is a professor of communication and director of  the School of Communication at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in documentary studies, cultural and media studies, and tourism. You can email Mark here: mark@documentaryworks.org

Michael LeVan is WebComandante for DocumentaryWorks. He teaches courses on rhetoric and public memory, globalization and democracy, and visual culture in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida. Comments or problems with the website can be directed to michael@documentaryworks.org

Wendy Adams King is our Field Agent who brings back sonic snapshots and stories from every place she travels. She is a doctoral student at the University of South Florida who studies visual culture, documentary, and the culture of tourism.
